ISLAMABAD: In the wake of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report, the two major opposition parties – Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf – in the National Assembly decided on Tuesday to requisition the joint session of the parliament to push for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, ARY News reported.

PPP leader Khursheed Shah, the leader of the opposition in the lower house, and PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, met here in Islamabad to discuss the emerging scenarios in the wake of the incriminating revelations about the ruling family in the Panama Papers JIT report.

Sources said that the two major opposition parties have decided to requisition the joint session of the parliament to discuss the Panama JIT report. The parties have also agreed to contact other opposition parties to launch a joint anti-government alliance.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Qureshi said the PM should have stepped down in the wake of the report. The JIT had compiled a detailed and comprehensive report covering the Sharif family’s financial records, he added.

Qureshi said the leaders of PPP and PTI seemed in agreement over the demand for PM’s resignation as PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had seconded the PTI chairman’s stance.
