ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has urged to form a parliamentary committee on anti-state statements issued by former Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani here during the National Assembly session on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the opposition leader Khursheed Ahmed Shah has asked for formation of a joint parliamentary committee over the issue.
While talking to media recently Shah had called Haqqani a traitor.
It is pertinent to mention that in an opinion piece published in Washington Post, the former ambassador admitted his role of spying in Pakistan for US.
Haqqani’s piece, titled “Yes, the Russian Team met Trump’s team so? That’s what we diplomat do”, primarily focuses on practices of envoys.
However, in his piece, Haqqani confessed of forging relations with Obama’s campaign team which consequently led closer cooperation between Pakistan and US in fighting terrorism.
The article enraged many Pakistani politicians including former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani who said that Abbottabad commission report would expose him.
